I have installed a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 500 GB SSD. I would like recommendations for a heat sink.

Hi

Your PC's motherboard (link found here) shows the M.2 socket is located near the SATA ports. The high heat area on all motherboards is near the CPU socket and the PCIe x16 graphics card slot.

This is not a high heat area. You may not need to install a heatsink.

Try Google. I am sure Amazon or Newegg has many options available.

This is the motherboard in my computer(Link).  It is next to the PCIex16 slot.

Hi

Thanks for the additional information.

Don't know how I got the wrong MB.

The M.2 socket is below the PCIe x16 slot.

You could get a heatsink. Your option.

That is not a real hot area unless you have a GTX 1070 or 1080 or comparable AMD graphics card and game a lot.

I was looking at a heat sink because I've read how hot these drives get and will throttle down when they get too hot.

Hi

I have an EVO 960 installed in about the same area your M.2 socket is.

No heat problems. My Asus MB provides M.2 temperature monitoring. The 960 runs around 39 C, which is within tolerance.

I also have an M.2 socket located between the CPU socket and the first PCIe x16 slot. Asus provides a passive heatsink for this socket.

It will not hurt to install a heatsink.

Your call on this.
