HP DC5700
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello everyone, im here to ask you something pretty simple, and I hope you can help me:

My parents gifted me and old HP DC5700 as gift for entering in the university, and for ofimatic uses is a nice PC, but I want to upgrade the processor for an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550, the problem is I researched for the compatible processors and the PDF doesn't mention that processor, is possible to install it and the PC should run fine or I need specificaly the Core 2 Duo E6500?

I know is a too old PC, but for just using for homework and simple browsing is more than enough for me, I just want to upgrade it because the Pentium Dual Core E2160 that currently have is too slow for browsing.

Thank you very much for you help.

Hi:

The reason the E6550 definitely won't work is because it has a FSB speed of 1333 MHz.

The dc5700 motherboard can only run processors up to a 1066 MHz FSB.

If you plan on upgrading the processor, you may as well 'shoot the moon,' and install the Conroe E6700, 2.66 Ghz processor.

Here is the link to the quickspecs for the dc5700.  The supported processors can be found on page 8.
