How do I close desktop extension and hp system event utility host.osd

If you want to close Desktop Extension and HP System Event Utility Host (OSD), follow these steps:

1. Close Desktop Extension

HP Desktop Extension is a background service that helps with multi-monitor setups and display enhancements. You can disable it if it's unnecessary.

Temporarily Disable (Until Restart)

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Processes tab.
  3. Find HP Desktop Extension.
  4. Right-click and select End Task.

Permanently Disable

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down to find HP Desktop Extension Service.
  3. Right-click it, select Properties.
  4. Change Startup type to Disabled.
  5. Click Apply > OK, then restart your PC.

2. Close HP System Event Utility Host (OSD)

This utility controls on-screen display (OSD) notifications for HP laptops (e.g., volume, brightness, function keys).

Temporarily Disable (Until Restart)

  1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  2. Look for HP System Event Utility Host under Processes.
  3. Right-click and select End Task.

Permanently Disable

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find HP System Event Utility.
  3. Right-click and select Properties.
  4. Change Startup type to Disabled.
