@GamerJon20211,

Yes, the MXM graphics card slides into the MXM slot (blue rectangle) and secured with two tiny screws (red circles) just like as shown here with an MXM to PCIe x16 converter/adapter I used for my HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT upgrade project:

@GamerJon20211,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Perhaps you want to reconsider, because the ATI Mobility Radeon HD5450M as your link shows, is offered without a heatsink.  Without a heatsink, your MXM card gets fried.  Separate heatsinks "Graphics chip heat sink MXM 8300" with p/n: 698603-001, are difficult to find, and often very costly.

That is one problem.  The other problem is that an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5450M card performs only marginally better than your i5-3470S integrated HD Graphics 2500.

Another problem is that you'll have to upgrade your power supply to a 230-watt (p/n: 608432-001 or 609946-001) unit.  These are not expensive, around $17: HP 608432-001 for sale | eBay.

To wrap this up, I would recommend this MXM card, an AMD Radeon HD 7650A 2GB DDR3 -which comes with a heatsink, and is insanely faster than an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5450M, and is a bargain for $19.95 imo: AMD Radeon HD 7650A 2GB DDR3 Video Graphics Video Card With Heat Sink | eBay.

What are my qualifications to provide you this info?  It was one of my HP legacy upgrade projects (Solved: Upgrading HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT - HP Support Community - 8118827), where I really went all the way to create the fastest of its kind -to this day: HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

Hope this was helpful.

@GamerJon20211,

You are welcome!

I sincerely hope that my feedback was helpful.

I would be interested to see if you are going to purchase the MXM card I recommended, along with the power supply upgrade.

Btw before I buy the MXM card do I need to install a driver before I install the MXM Card or Install the MXM card then update the drivers?

@GamerJon20211,

What I would recommend is to download the AMD Radeon HD 7650A 2GB DDR3 driver from here: AMD Radeon™ HD 7650M Drivers & Support | AMD and have it ready to install once you installed the MXM card.

There really isn't much to it, the driver should 'find' the MXM card and install it.

Don't forget the 230-watt power supply.

@GamerJon20211,

Yes, an AMD Radeon HD 7650A 2GB will work on your HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT, as verified in the second UserBenchMark link below.

And 435% better than an AMD Radeon HD 5450 512MB:

AMD Radeon HD 5450 at 1.11%: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/56856751

AMD Radeon HD 7650A at 4.83%: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/52185785

@GamerJon20211,

Yes, no worries, the AMD Radeon HD 7650A 2GB MXM graphics card (TDP = 33 watt) + heatsink will fit inside your case.
