How loud are the fans on the omen obelisk desktop supposed to be?
I got this computer about a week ago, and it seems like the fans were literally silent when I first got the computer, although they may have just sounded silent in contrast to my previous desktop.
Right now, when I'm running just the web browser, I can hear the fans humming. The noise at about 2 feet away is about as loud as a refrigerator in cooling mode 10-20 feet away.
Is that normal?
During normal expected operation, how loud should the fans be?

@person7 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that the fan is making loud noises.
Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.
I have a few recommendations:
-
A computer contains several fans to keep it cool. When a computer is first turned on, the fans normally spin at high speed and create some noise. After 5 to 20 seconds, however, the fan noise stops.
-
Fans that continue to spin at high speed or make strange noises might indicate a problem. If the fan is still noisy after 20 seconds or if a fan suddenly starts making unusual noises, use the following steps to troubleshoot problems.
For more details: Click here (win7) - Although the same steps would apply to windows 8 & 10 – later.
Please update the BIOS and check.

Thanks Praveen196.
I understand that the fan is making loud noises.
No, not particularly loud. The noise at about 2 feet away is about as loud as a refrigerator in cooling mode 10-20 feet away.
But, when I first got the computer, it seemed like the fans were literally silent (as in, undetectable by the human ear from 2 feet away).
So my question is: During normal expected operation, how loud should the fans be?
If you have an answer in dBA, that would be fantastic. If not, then any information about the expected noise level of the fans during normal operation might still be useful.

I understand your concerns.
There is no limit to loud the fan noise. If you are getting high noise, you have to update the BIOS.
Please refer to the below link to HP Notebook PCs - HP CoolSense Technology. If the option is not available, your product not supported.

I appreciate that you replied, but the reply that you posted does not address my question.
I'm not asking about whether there is a way to limit the fan noise.
My question is, during normal expected operation, how loud should the fans be?

I understand your concerns.
There is no set amount of decibel. if the notebook is idle we should hardly hear the fan just like our notebooks. during operations, you will hear the fan but it won't be that loud.
