That is weird.

Maybe the processor is no good?

You can make your own plain W10 installation media from the link below and use that to install W10.

At least it is not your whole computer that is wrecked like I left you with it last night....

Yh it is very odd I have sent message to eBay seller and I am waiting to see if there have a different take on this kind of problem since their deal processors on daily basics if no solution found then ill give up on the processor and wait for isopropyl alcohol to arrive and clean the processor and put the old one back with new thermal paste and its should be back to normal.

Thanks for your guidance, too bad new processor hasn’t worked out.

Cheers.

You're very welcome.

Sorry it didn't work out either, but at least you now have the latest microcode in the BIOS and you should be able to install any of the supported processors on the dc7800 list.

Yes I have ordered E8400 which runs at 3Ghz same as stock E6850 and if run into any problems then i will be needing ur help again and really i hope i dont and it would be simple job.

I hope it just works like it should have too.

How come you didn't get the E8600?

You may as well go big.

Few days back you have given me dc7800 quickspecs pdf which shows at page 9 list of cpu’s which are meant to be supported to my knowledge and you also advised me no to go with quad core due to high power consumption which will strain the psu as it is only 240 watts.

So based on what I already know I went with E8400 which I heard is more value of money not that its matters its like almost 10yrs old and I was totally unware of any cpu’s beyond E8500 and another reason I opt in for E8400 is due to is same clock speed of 3GHz.

Although E8600 would have been nice I dont feel too bad about E8400 as I picked up for only £6 on Ebay.

---Update---

The new processor E8400 has arrived and I have faced same problem and I have given up on new CPU and put back the old one and the pc runs just fine.

Sorry that didn't work for you.

I guess it is time to save up for a newer model.

I suggest the 8200 Elite.

They should be pretty reasonably priced on eBay as off-lease machines.

I have two of the Convertible Mini Towers.

You I got feeling that 64bit WIndows is causing the problem due to the cpu is very old and it may not be compitable with windows 10 64bit so I have installied windows 7 64bit and im gona make it dual boot but windows 7 will be default os and when i installed one of the new cpu again i should go pass the windows loading screen at start.

My source is that I have seen someone upgrade dc7800 model on youtube with e8400 and their sytem worked and guess what the os was windows XP.

Also this is not my main pc and I am using it to gain valuable experience by troubleshooting and upgrading systems.

I am gona through the kitchen sink at it later on and let you know what happens.

My dc7800 has the E8300 and works fine.  It came that way.

I tossed in a Sandisk 240 GB SATA III SSD, and on W10 that PC runs great.

Even though the drive controller is only SATA II, the performance increase was dramatic.

I upgraded the memory to 8 GB (PC2-6400) and installed an AMD Radeon HD 6570.

I have the CMT so it has a decent 365W power supply.

I've run every Windows OS on it (XP and newer) including XP 64 bit.  Runs each one of them fine.
