A GT1030 won't work.

No nvidia card past a 600 series will work in a PC that old.

Nvidia 700 and newer cards require a PC with a UEFI BIOS, which you don't get until the 8200 Elite series...4 models newer than the dc7800.

Thank you for givning me heads up it would have took at least an year or 2 for me to atleast consider buying 1030 due to its cost but now I dont have too. The system would be great after cpu installation and I would be happy to leave it there.

Thanks

Anytime.

Let me know how you like the Q9550.

I bought the dc7900 on eBay with the Q9500 already installed, so I was not able to even do a subjective comparison on what difference going from the E8400 to a Q9xxx made regarding performance.

I was going to do what you did, and put in a SSD, but I decided against it, and installed the SSD in my 8200 Elite CMT.

That would really have been the only other thing worth doing to the dc7900.

I have done some digging online comparing the 2 cpus and I came to understand the single core perfomace of quad core is bit low the the dual core but in multithreading quad core blows dual core out of the water and performance differnce is quite significant to see and most light way games and application do take advantage of 4 cores and performance boosts is really noticeable.

As for the ssd it was must for me cause I have sdd on all the systems I own with exception of a notebook and I could not live it slow boot times and slow apps load up and luckily I managed to find a good deal on 60gb ssd on ebay and got it for £19 used.

Overall I think the system is reaching its peak and apart from another 2gb ram which i dont really need, I think there is nothing else can be done to improve this system any further. Wouldnt you agree?

Thanks

Yes, I agree with your assessment.

Other than maxing out the processor, you have gotten all you can out of it.

If you only had 2 x 2 GB of memory in there, I would say add the second 2 x 2 GB, but since you already have 6 GB, 8 isn't going to make a world of difference.

I also have a dc7800 CMT with the E8300, and I maxed out the memory.  HP put 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) of the slower PC2-5300 memory in it and I removed that and got 2 x 2 GB of PC2-6400 memory so it would run at the full 800 MHz.

800 MHz is a bad enough bottleneck with the 1333 MHz processor, let alone 667 MHz!

Yh you want to use the fastest memory possible to maximise the performance on low end pc and going back on the point you made before that dc7800 doesnt not take gpu beyond 600 series but I have found this link for a benchmark for a dc7800 model running quad core pair with gtx 750 ti. Is this even possible?

Sorry forgot to post the link before http://browser.geekbench.com/v4/compute/223221

Thanks

Interesting...it was my understanding that a nvidia GT 700 series graphics card won't work in any PC that doesn't have a UEFI BIOS.

In any event, the gtx 750 ti is way too powerful for the SFF.

I have an AMD Radeon HD 6570 in my dc7800 CMT and that works fine, because it has a 365W power supply and doesn't require a UEFI BIOS.

Yh if you check my last post I have added the link there and I agree that gpu takes alot of power and we can only see the stats on the website which doesnt really gives us the full store of how the pc would look and which psu the person was using and other important factors. It maybe a trick or some kind perhaps because tinkering with my system for good few months I cant see my self putting 750 ti in due to the 240w psu.

HP Recommended

Yes, I saw it and edited my post.

There is no way it went in a SFF because that card needs two adjacent spaces (one for the card and one for the cooling fans).

Ane there is no such thing as a low profile 750 that I am aware of.

It would easily fit in the dc7800 CMT though.

You are spot on becuase SFF does not have the build to host 750 ti whereas CMT does come with 365W psu and which may also have option to be upgraded not 100% sure but cmt model provides 750 ti plenty of juice to run on thus I saw a massive score one the geekbunch compare to its counter parts.
