Just picked up this very nice hp elite 8300 sff i5 3470. I'm looking to max out the CPU. Can I go i7? If so what's the max I can go? I have already updated my bios and have installed 16gbs of 1600 ram. Hoping I can slap a i7 in and make the best of it. Also ordered a 710 but am now considering just maxing the graphics out as well. What's the best graphics card that will fit in the stock case? I know the ps can't power a graphics card via not having the plug. Thanks

Came for the 8300, stayed for the free lunch and tote bag.

Hi:

Yes, you can upgrade the processor to the i7-3770

See page 6 of the Quickspecs at the link below.

HP Compaq Elite 8300 Business PC (itema-pg.com)

Not on the above list but according to this discussion to be supported would be the i7-3770K.

Folks have installed the Nvidia GT 1050ti low profile card in that model.

It will be quite a load on the 240W power supply however.

You could also opt for the less powerful GT 1030, or GT 730.

Thanks for the response. Okay so I slapped a fresh 16 gigs of RAM in and she's a beast already but I found this card for cheap on offer up will it work possibly?

I think it said it's rated at 75w.

Also, this is the processor I'm thinking about upgrading to, will this work? Sorry for the lame questions.

I've added a 240gb SSD and two 8gb sticks of team group ram, soon to be 32gbs when the other 2 sticks arrive.

You're very welcome.

Yes, the card and the processor should work.

It is definitely pushing the limit of the 240W power supply though, but it should hold up.
