I am having a time of it trying to find out which SATA Ports on my z620 Workstation's MotherBoard: a Hewlett-Packard 158A,  are the SATA III 6Gb/s Ports. I wish to plug-in my new SATA III 6Gb/s SSD into the best performing Port. There are 10 total SATA ports on the Board. Two "Black" sticking straight out of the lower center of the board. There are also two "Black" SATA Ports arranged vertically (together) mounted just above the 6 SATA ports aligned horizontally at the lower right-hand portion of the board. Two of those six are "Grey" and the other four are "White". Can anyone show me how, or a viable Link to find out which Ports are the 6Gb/s  Ports? The Bay Cables are marked but as far as I can see none of the SATA Ports are marked.

Hi:

See the service manual below, chapter 1, page 26, for which of the sata ports are 6.0 GB/S

If I'm reading it right, the two on the very bottom right side labeled 31 are the 6.0 GB/S ports.

0 would be the boot drive.

Paul, Thank you for your quick answer. I had been trying all of the three pairs of SATA ports (one pair at a time) and finally (using Speccy) determined that the two 'GRAY' SATA Ports of the six horizontally placed ports on the bottom-right of the mobo are indeed the SATA III 6Gb/s Ports. It's funny, you can find a blue-zillion "Spec Sheets" online on the workstations but only that one obscure reference to the SATA III Ports. There are still four 'BLACK' SATA Ports on the mobo of which I have no idea as to their intended usage. I will probably never use them but it would be good for my brain to know what they are for.

Anyway, thankx again,

Lee
