HP ENVY 700-216 Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Trying to install a Geforce GT 710 in my Envy 700-216 and it just keeps beeping and will not show anything on the screen.  Does anyone know what is going on?

@confusion100,

Welcome to our HP User Forum.

Your HP ENVY 700-216 Desktop PC (F3E01AA) is fitted with a 300 watt power supply as per HP ENVY 700-216 Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support.

Beeping graphics cards, at least in my anecdotal experiences, is generally not a particularly happy omen.  As in: your card may be defective.

Not to lecture you in any way, but my first thought was that the (very) low-end GT 710 is just plain horrible for gaming.  And if your desktop is not meant for gaming and is just for surfing the internet -well, you still shouldn't bother.

For gaming you should get a modern card such as at least a GT 1030 2GB to be able to play more modern games.

And take a look here what graphics cards would work on your desktop: Best Graphics Card for 300 Watt Power Supply in 2022 - Beem Builds, which is suggesting the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650, EVGA GeForce GTX 980 or the Asus GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@confusion100,

But why not troubleshooting your GT 710.

1.) Turn your desktop off and unplug the AC adapter/disconnect power from your desktop.

2.) press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

3.) Leave ONLY the keyboard & mouse connected, disconnect monitor, remove GT 710.

4.) [EDIT:] Reconnect power to your desktop.

5.) Press and Hold the PWR button for 10 seconds in order to initiate a Hard Reset.

6.) Repeat #5.

7.) Reconnect monitor, install GT 710, reconnect monitor to the GT 710, power on your desktop, then immediately press the ESC key repeatedly, then F2 at the prompt.

8a.) Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4-minute hardware check).

8b.) However, if there is still no video signal from the GT 710/still beeps, repeat process without the GT 710 -assuming your processor has integrated graphics, and you can plug in your monitor on the backside of your desktop.

9.) Let me know what happened.

Kind Regards,
