Hi folks,

I was hoping you guys could help me out.  My system is now having issue with Intel ME / AMT after a BIOS upgrade.  I'm getting the error message showing at boot:  SOFT TEMPORARY DISABLE: To enable ME, check Active Management (AMT) option in F10 Setup.

I can confirm I've enabled and disabled the option in the BIOS.  I also noticed the options in the boot menu have disappeared:

Start Intel CIRA (F4)

ME Setup (F6)

These are present on another identical system that is working fine after BIOS update.  I tried reflashing the BIOS using the Windows Flasher tool from the HP website and then also flashing BIOS from a Flash Drive using the BIOS menu option Update BIOS.  Both methods seem to complete fine but make no difference to my issue of Intel ME no longer being detected.  I tried the UEFI Hardware diagnostics and every test passes fine without detecting an issue with Intel ME.  I also copied the configuration from the BIOS of the good working system and restored them on the bad but it made no difference.  I tried to BIOS reset button on the motherboard, this reset the BIOS ok but made no difference to the issue.  When I have AMT enabled in the BIOS I am experiencing issue with POST times - it takes around 35-45 seconds before the computer display comes on and begins to boot.  Also it fails sometimes to reboot, it sits on a black screen for around 200 seconds then the fans spin at 100% and nothing happens until I power off manually.

I also tried the Intel ME Firmware update on the HP Support website.  It completed fine on my good working system however I get the error below on the problem system:

-------------------------

ME firmware updating tool 1.4

Error 8743v: Unknown or Unsupported Platform

Cannot locate hardware platform identification

This program cannot be run on the current platform

Please confirm that you have the latest ME software driver, Intel ME is enabled, you are running as administrator priviledges and try again.

If you are still having issue please contact HP Support.

Waiting 20 seconds, press a key to continue...

------------------------

I also noticed Intel ME is not appearing in the device manager - all drivers have been otherwise installed correctly its as though the Intel ME platform isn't being detected at all as I get errors when trying to install the Intel ME Software also.

Please can someone point me in the right direction - should I look into force flashing the ME firmware again or any other advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post

Thanks in advance

Keith

Hello Keef123..

I had the same problem, the same symptoms.

I installed the driver from the HPZ240 site (I can't remember now, but you find)? which installs software for diagnostics, while it places an area of the hard disk.

In the BIOS section advanced function ATM - disable.

Everything is working at the moment.

P.S. If you don't find driver, write to me, I will try to find the DRIVER name, and I will write later.

Hi Hohaman,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and reply.

I tried these steps also before posting but still doesn't clear the message at post:

SOFT TEMPORARY DISABLE: To enable ME, check Active Management (AMT) option in F10 Setup.

Even when I disable or enable ATM in the BIOS is shows the same message.

In the Hardware Diagnostics - what components did you test - I've ran a test on the whole system and it said everything passed OK.  However I still can't get the Intel ME update to install the latest firmware - its just not being detected.

This is still causing an issue with rebooting the system or startup and requires the power cable to be removed, drain residual power from system (hold power button for 30 seconds) then connect again and boot.

I might just have to consider a motherboard replacement.

Its a shame, the issue was caused by running HP Updates from the Support Assistant. the system has only run out of warranty in February so contacting HP Support directly can't be done.  I tried extending the warranty however when I even copy and paste the product number from the website when it finds the product by serial number, it says it cant find the product.

Thank you again my friend for taking the time to help

Hello Keef123.

I have the same problem, I disabled  ATM ( ME disable automatic)  in Bios setup. When i start PC, need wait 15-20 sec. I have the same message (SOFT TEMPORARY DISABLE: To enable ME, check Active Management (AMT) option in F10 Setup). After PC download, working and restarting without problem.

If you see in BIOS version ME (system information/main), you will see 0.0.0.0, also you will find in Windows device manager/system device/outdated device - it is ME.

I try update ME firmware - Windows, Dos, Linux, but it impossible, need enable ME in BIOS. If set enable DOS, Windows does not start and coolers in a couple of minutes begin to spin strongly.

This problem is not often found on forums, i find one: www.win-raid.com/t3707f39-ME-gone-after-bios-update-ME-FW-version-could-not-fix-it-by-sw-so-I-decide...

But i not find data electric draws for this motherboard .

My waranty finish Febrary too. I visit HP centre in Russian. There are 3 ways:

-buy new

-buy restored motherboard

-repeir motherboard

But i try repair my motherboard by the electronic engineer with the programmator.

Best regards and good luck.

Many HP computer models have a BIOS crash recovery feature that allows you to restore and install the latest working BIOS version from your working hard drive. The BIOS crash recovery function is not integrated into the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of an irrecoverable system error.
To restore the previous BIOS version on your computer:
Off the computer.
When the computer is turned off, press and hold the Windows key and the b key simultaneously.
While holding down these keys, press the power button on the computer and hold it down for 2-3 seconds, then release the power button, but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen appears, or until the computer plays an audio signal (usually 8 beeps).
NOTE. If the keystroke does not work, press and release the power button, then immediately press the Windows and B keys simultaneously several times until the computer plays an audio signal or until the BIOS update screen opens.

Hello Hohaman - thank you very much for you're reply!

I tried the steps you outlined but unfortunately I couldn't get it to work.  I did however get my BIOS restored to an older version but it hasn't made any difference.

I have found CSME System Tools on the http://www.win-raid.com website and I'm currently looking to see if I can re-flash the SPI chip that way.  People on there have had a similar issue of a corrupt ME fw and doing so seemed to resolve it however I'm currently struggling to enable read/write access to the SPI chip.

This is apparently done via the FDO jumped on the motherboard.  it has 3 pins however 1 of the pin heads has been removed.  I'm trying to figure out how to get it unlocked but there is little information online on doing so.

Here's a pic of the inside cover of the side case showing at item 34 there is a AMT ME Flash Override Jumper.

Also - I seen in similar threads related to other HP systems - you need to position jumper on pin 1-2 - I'm not sure if pin 1 is the pin that has been removed.  Still researching see if I can do anything.  Wish I could just extend my warranty but I don't see any option to.
