We have a number of HP 800 G2 SFF workstations with the Intel Pro2500 SSD 180 GB exhibiting the "Boot Device Not Found" error detailed in the Advisory here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05905184?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001
I have been unable to successfully apply this update due to the following error. Even though our part number and model and issue is exactly the same as in the advisory it won't apply because it doesn't recognize the Firmware version. Has anyone had any success getting around this issue? I've contacted HP support and they just want to send us a replacement SSD (if the machines are still under warranty). Since this issue seems to be resolved with a simple firmware update, I'd love to be able to just do that since we've arlready got a number of these machines in the field.

i would contact intel support, (if the ssd is not a rebranded HP OEM with custom firmware) and give them the current firmware build number and the error the updater is listing
if the ssd is using custom HP code or is a OEM drive then that is why the intel toolbox program is unable to update the firmware

Unfortunately the SSD is an HP OEM drive so Intel won't provide support for it. The tool that is failing is the Firmware Update tool provided by HP. For whatever reason, the tool isn't recognizing the drive's firmware, probably because its hardcoded for only specific FW versions. If I look at the release notes, it only mentions laptops, but the advisory itself mentions the desktops having issues also. Perhaps initially it only targeted the FW versions for the laptops and was never updated to inlcude the workstation models having the same issues as well. It's especially frustrating because Intel has a firmware update that fixes the issue, but I can't apply it because it's an OEM drive so only HP can put out the FW update for it.

The update tool offered for those Intel Pro 2500 doesn't work for me either.
I have a Elitebook 840 G2 with a original Intel Pro 2500 with PN 786228-001 and FW: LTRi.
The update .exe failed as yours:
"Existing firmware version LTRi not recognized"
Maybe somebody from HP support will be reading this?

AS CHUCK_1234 pointed out, this is a product using HP custom firmware that is supported by HP not intel and as such the intel firmware updater will not work nor should it be expected to as the intel update firmware is Intel code not HP code
until/if HP releases newer firmware than what they posted, there is no newer firmware
also note that the intel firmware fixes may not apply, since the HP code is most likely diffrent
the HP updater only works on thes HP labled models

Excuse me, I expressed it a little bit confusing:
It's a Intel SSD from HP as a OEM that was shipped with the original notebook. I did not get the firmware update tool from Intel, I used the one provided from HP for that cause.
If you would have read my post correctly you would have seen that my model is in the list you posted.

i am aware you (the original poster) got the update and your SSD from HP, my reply was for others using the Intel retail firmware that is found on non HP labled SSD models using this same hardware
we have had many people who think that since the hardware is made by intel that they can use the intel firmware on this model when using HP custom firmware which is why i reminded them this is not so
hopefully i have now made this more clear (you are right it was not really a great post i previously made specifying this fact)
