Intimidated by BIOS update

I recently started upgrading my HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-00xx. I currently am trying to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 2400G to a Ryzen 7 2700 as its the highest my motherboard is listed to handle. Do I necessarily need to do a BIOS update for this? Everything I'm reading is saying to avoid if I can, but do so if the upgrade requires it. So do I need to in this particular case? The BIOS version currently running in my Desktop is the AMI F.41, is this sufficient enough where it is unnecessary to do the update? I'm stressing way more than I probably should, but knowing this could brick my PC is legit scaring me. Any advice would help.

It looks like you have the Sunflower motherboard https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05939208 .

Look at CPU upgrade options at this link. HP has validated using the 2700 in this motherboard with the factory BIOS.

A buggy BIOS update for this motherboard, F.57, has caused some problems.

It is best to avoid: this specific BIOS update offered by HP or as an optional HP firmware update offered by Windows Update (15.57.0.0).

Thank you, this has alleviated some of my anxiety regarding this upgrade. I'm trying to stay within the limits of what's possible for the Sunflower motherboard. When I heard about BIOS updates and their risks, I became way less confident about what I'm doing.

My pleasure.

Run the PC before you do the CPU upgrade to warm things up. Socket AM4 CPUs have the pins on the processor.

Jiggle the heatsink after removing heatsink connections to the MB socket and before heatsink removal to loosen the thermal paste.

This will prevent premature removal of the CPU and possible damage to the CPU or the socket when you remove the heatsink.
