Pavilion Slimline - s5340sc
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, my stationary computer just died on me, no power in it, so I think it can be the power unit that is broken,

can I still change this power unit Model PC8044 (I did see that it is not for sale anymore, but can I use some other type?)

OR,

as I thinking more of, can I remove the hard drive (I assume it is still working) and connect it to an other computer via an USB tool,  like a Cradle...

will all the Explorer/Firefox links be found when I connect to the other computer? I assume somewhere in folders...

any guideance would be great!

all the best

Mike

Hi again,

just wanted to write in and update the status, and it is a very positive status 🙂

I was able to remove the hard drive, and I attached it to my new Docking station, and connected the Docking station to one other HP computer, and, the hard drive show up as an external hard drive in the 'Explorer', so I am a happy camper!

cheers,

Mike

@Helpless_Mike,

If the hard drive is indeed functional, you could copy the data and file folders.

What type of hard drive is the old unit?

Hi wb2001!

Thanks a lot for you answer,

I really do not know which type of hard drive that are installed.... (have tried to find info on HP home page, using serial number, model numbers etc, but cannot find any info about the hard drive...

I found instructions how to remove it,  on this page, in swedish sorry,

https://support.hp.com/se-sv/product/hp-pavilion-slimline-s5300-desktop-pc-series/4079861/model/4127...

looking at Upgrade and service handbook

page 17-20

But how to connect it to an other computer? if I can use something like a Docking station?

and, will everything on the old hard drive be available or do I need to do some "magic stuff" like programming or similar, or do I need any software?

kindest

Mike

ps. I just now assume the power unit is broken and that the hard drive is working...
