Hello.
I've been having an issue with an upgrade to my current PC that I was hoping someone could shed some light on. I have the HP pavilion gaming tg01 desktop, and I am trying to upgrade to 32gb total ram. I went onto Crucial's website to find that my computer is capable of handling 32gb of ram and that I should use the DDR4-3200 UDIMM (CT16G4DFRA32A). Great. I order 2 16gb chips, pop my pc open, and install the new ram chips (which is something I've done before so I think I know how to do it correctly). However, when I try to boot my computer, it turns on, lights come on, fans start moving, no beeps from the motherboard, but the computer doesn't boot. My keyboard lights up (oddly, the mouse and external camera don't), and my monitors detect that they've been plugged into the computer, but there's nothing past that.
If someone could shed some light on what might be happening, that would be appreciated.

Put the old memory back in and run the HP support assistant and see if there is a bios upgrade. Go into the bios setup and look for XMP or some tool to configure memory.
The correct memory to get is the kit.
CT2K16G4DFRA32A
Contact the supplier and return the memory for the correct ones if you cannot get them to work as a pair.
Before returning the memory, put a single one in your PC and see if it boots up
If so, then download and run CPU-z and see if the memory rank is 1Rx8 (single) or 2Rx8 (dual) or something else
If both of your memory sticks are "dual" then you probably need "single"
The kit of two memory sticks should have been the correct rank!

I see. Thanks for the reply. I tried putting in only 1 of the new ram chips and still nothing happened, so I put the old ram back in and the computer boots like normal. I've now since returned the "new" ram chips, and have updated the BIOS on my computer since I seemed to have been a few years behind.
According to CPU-Z, this is what I currently have in my system:
So single rank ram it seems. Now that I've returned the ram, I'll wait for the refund to hit and order the kit you linked directly from Crucial (since admittingly, I only used crucial to look up which chips I needed, and then went to Amazon to order them). I'm still not sure what the difference was between what I ordered and what's in the kit (other than I seemed to have ordered 2 single chips instead of a kit of 2). I guess it's just my inexperience with hardware, but I'm not sure if something like that would make a difference, or if it really was just a matter of needing to update the BIOS first.
I'll report back once I get the kit from Crucial's website and see if I can get things running. Thanks!

Did you try the single chip after updating the bios?
I looked at the reviews for the "kit" and there was problems with Dell systems not booting with even one stick.
A few years ago I received a pair of 1Rx8 (16gb each) and had to return them to newegg as I needed dual rank.
I had thought that a single stick would have worked. The link you provided listed both single and dual rank. Do you know what rank it was? The rank should have been listed on the label. I was unable to find a list of recommended memory 32gb .
I did find a user that edited the bios memory setting to change the latency (run chip slower) and he then used Ryzen Master to make fine adjustments on the memory. Ryzen Master appears to recognize XMP memory where the HP bios does not.

Perhaps the OP wants to try this 2x16GB RAM kit, known to run at 3200 MHz: Crucial CP2K16G4DFRA32A 2x16GB, such as this purchase option: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-2x16GB-3200MT-Desktop-CP2K16G4DFRA32A/dp/B0C29R9LNL/ref=sr_1_1?dib=ey....
Fact remains that HP desktops are finnicky when it comes to RAM and achieving max RAM speed/performance, as you can see here: UserBenchmark: HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-0xxx Compatible Components.

I didn't try the single chip after updating, I definitely should have, though...
I'll give the kit that NonSequitur777 suggested since looking at the reviews for that kit, there are people who also own the same tg01-0023w who are reporting that it worked without issue (which, looking back at the reviews for the one I ordered and now returned, was apparently not the case for those chips).
If those give me issue, I'll look into the bios memory settings and Ryzen Master option.
