Hi @Chazebanks,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I can imagine how  it must feel when your keyboard isn’t responding the way you expect. Let’s work together to get this sorted out.

Could you please share the exact HP laptop or keyboard model you’re using?

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try right away:

  1. Check Sticky Keys: Go to Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard and make sure Sticky Keys or Filter Keys are turned off. These features can sometimes cause unexpected input behavior.
  2. Update Keyboard Drivers: Open Device Manager → Keyboards, right-click your keyboard, and select Update driver. Outdated drivers can lead to unusual key mappings.
  3. Test in BIOS: Restart your computer and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS. Try typing there  if the issue persists, it may be hardware-related.
  4. External Keyboard Test: Connect a USB keyboard. If the external one works fine, the issue is likely with your built-in keyboard hardware.
  5. Run HP Support Assistant: This tool can automatically detect and fix driver or hardware issues.
  6. Try a quick power drain : Turn off the device , remove the AC adapter, and remove any external peripherals. Press and hold the power button for 15–25 seconds to drain residual power. Reconnect the power source  and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
