Hi, my system comes with Motherboard MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E! I am trying to see if there is any update available to the BIOS before I upgrade my video card to GTX 970. I already upgraded my PSU to 600 W to accommodate the 970. My current BIOS version [according to Windows system information] is American Megatrends Inc. 6.07 date 19/05/2010. Please help me locate where I can get any bios update for my motherboard.
Here is more information about my system:

Okay now I am really confused!
After I read Best Buy Canada return policy [which gives me 14 days to return my purchased GPU]. I decided to go against the advice which I received from this thread and other HP forum.
I bought the Zotac GTX 970 from Best Buy thinking there might be a very small chance it will work, and if it doesn't I will return it!
To my surprise after installing it, It booted up with no problems!! I installed the latest drivers from Zotac website and then rebooted the system, but still no problems!
I ran all 3-DMark benchmarks, more than twice with no problems! [which is about 7 times faster than my ATI hd5770]
Here is my results: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/6457066
I played a couple of minutes with divinity: origin sin with ultra graphics at 80 FPS and still no problem!
I also played a couple of minutes with supreme commander2 [2010 year old game] at 60 FPS and still no problem!
I shut off and on my computer about ten times, just to make sure the system is stable and still no problems!!
Here is two pictures from my system information showing that I am running HP BIOS version 6 and the GTX 970!
I only have been using it for two days and hopefully I will not run into problems in the future!
So my advice is to check your favorite store for their return policy and then try the GTX 970 yourself! Do not let other HP volunteers/users experience in this forms discourage you from trying it out!
P.s. Do not forget to upgrade your PSU to 500 W. [I upgraded mine from 460 W to Corsair 600 W]

Hi,
You need a version 8 BIOS to run the NVIDIA GTX 970 and it's not available.
The NVIDIA GTX 660 would be an excellent choice.

Hi,
HP has typically stopped producing BIOS updates for a particular model PC after one (1) from its release to the market. There may be some exceptions but I haven't seen many.
You need a version 8 BIOS to support the NVIDIA GTX 9xx graphics cards. HP released the version 8 BIOS for most of its consumer level PCs in October 2012. Your PC was released to the market in June 2010.

thanks Dave.
So I cannot get a bios update from American Megatrends Inc. or any other website?
What Makes bios version 8 so essential, and how come Nvidia doesn't mention any additional requirement other than a 500 PSU?
Thanks
btw I am running Windows 7 64 bit

Hi,
You are out of luck with your PC. Perhaps one of the NVIDIA graphics card manufacturers has a remedy.

Hi,
There is not a magical list of graphics cards that are guaranteed to work in your PC.
This HP CTO model has a number of graphics cards that should work in your PC when matched with the correct power supply.

hello Dave,
I keep searching the web for answers, but I still don't understand why my motherboard would accept a GTX 660 and not GTX 970. is it because of UEFI Support or PCI express 3.0?
Also the link you provided "HP CTO" is for HP Pavilion Elite HPE-150t, my computer is HPE-372f
thank you

Hi,
The CTO model has the same motherboard.
The video BIOS in BIOS NVIDIA GTX 9xx series expects a higher level PC BIOS before it will work and there is not a version 8 BIOS update available for your PC.
