Hi @CSMT1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Ensure Printer Readiness
- Power On the Printer: Make sure the printer is not off or in sleep mode. Press the power button to wake it or turn it on.
- Load Paper: Make sure paper is loaded into the input tray, and that the paper width guides rest gently against the sides of the paper stack.
- Use Genuine Cartridges: Ensure that genuine HP toner cartridges are installed correctly.
- Check Toner Levels: Print a Supplies Status Page to check the estimated life remaining in the toner cartridges.
- Resolve Errors: Make sure that no error messages or blinking lights display on the printer control panel. Resolve any errors before using the printer.
- Restart the Printer: Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it on.
Download the Correct Printer Driver
- Visit HP Support: Go to HP Customer Support.
- Identify Your Product: Type your printer model in the text box and click the Submit button.
- Find Software, Drivers, and Firmware: On the product home page, click Software, Drivers and Firmware.
- Download the Latest Driver: Select the correct driver version, and then click Download.
- Install the Driver: Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the printer driver.
Set Default Printer Manually (Windows)
Windows 10:
- Open Windows Settings and select Devices.
- Click Printers & scanners.
- Ensure the Let Windows manage my default printer checkbox is not selected.
- From the list of printers, select the printer that matches the name of your printer and has a status of idle or online.
- Click Manage, then Set as default.
- Try to print. If the printer remains offline, continue to the next step.
Windows 8 or Windows 7:
- Search for Devices, and then click Devices and Printers.
- Right-click the active HP printer (not grayed out) and select Set as Default printer.
- Try to print. If the printer remains offline, continue to the next step.
Check Printer Port and Windows Services Status
- Open Control Panel: Search for 'Control Panel' and open Devices and Printers.
- Right-click Printer: Select Printer Properties and click the Ports tab.
- Check Port: If using a WSD port, check the status of Windows Function Discovery services.
- Open Services List: Search for 'Services' to check Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication. Ensure both are Running and set to Automatic.
- Add Port: If necessary, add a Standard TCP/IP Port using information from the Network Configuration Report.
I hope this helps.
