XW4200
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)
I'm currently running a 3.4 GHz Pentium IV (551) in my xw4200 and I know a Pentium 3.8 GHz (571) is a drop-in replacement...but I am greedy...

Will a Pentium 670 or 672 work? The 670 is also 3.8 GHz but has 2mb of cache instead of the 1 found on the 551 and 571, and the 672 has 2mb of cache and some visualization improvement. I dont really need a 672, and they are expensive and hard to find, so the 670 is my real question. Will the xw4200 throw a hissy fit over the extra cache and refuse to work, or do I have the green light?

@mbaysdell, welcome back to the forum.

I checked the specifications of both the 551 and 670.  The only difference that concerns me is the TDP.  The 551 is 84W and the 670 is 115W.  I don't know the maximum TDP for the HP motherboard.  I couldn't find it in the specifications.

Personally, I am not certain that you will see much system performance boost with 670 over the 551.
