Trying to determine the true maximum memory I can upgrade to for my HP Desktop.

It has two memory slots and HP indicates the max is 2 x 8 GB.

 

I disagree.  I have a Dell Optiplex 7050 MT business-class PC also with the i7-7700 processor, which has 4 memory slots and each slot can take a 16 GB chip.

 

The Crucial memory report for your PC also indicates that 2 x 16 GB would be the max.  That would be the true max.
