Pavilion p7-1380t
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a Pavilion p7-1380t desktop with 64-bit Windows 7 Pro.  When I purchases it about 7 years ago, it came with 6 GB of RAM (one 2 GB and one 4 GB).  That was fine when I first got it, but I think it is now limiting me quite a bit and I want to speed it up.

But there is conflicting data on HP's site about what I can do to upgrade my RAM.  For the p7-1380t system, it says I can only have a max of 8 GB of RAM.  However, the info for the motherboard (H-Joshua-H61-uATX) says that with a 64-bit Windows system, the max is 16 GB (2x8 GB).  I know that Microsoft says Windows 7 Pro can operate with up to 192 GB, but that of course is limited in my case.  But is it limited to a total of 8 GB (2x4 GB) or 16 GB (2x8GB)?  Most other websites (such as Crucial.com) seem to be relying on the HP info for the p7-1380t that says I can only upgrade to 8 GB (2x4 GB).  It is hard to even find anywhere that lists the H-Joshua-H61-uATX motherboard, otherwise I suspect I would be told I can go to 16 GB (2x8 GB).

So what really is the limit for my system:  8 GB (2x4 GB) or 16 GB (2x8 GB)?  Thank you very much.

Hi:

I am pretty sure that any Intel H61 chipset board can take 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Buy one, add it to what you have now, and if it works, buy the second chip.

Google 'H61 chipset memory specs,' and I haven't found one hit where they didn't state that 2 x 8 GB was supported.

I did as you suggested, except I bought two chips instead of one.  I got the Kingston KVR16N11K2/16 set, which has two of the 8GB, DDR3, 1600MHz, Non-ECC, CL11, 1.5V, Unbuffered, DIMM chips.  Removed the two old ones and put these in.  Fired it up and the system properties tell me it is recognizing 16GB, with 15.9 usable.

So I think I can definitely confirm the old HP webpages that say the HP Pavilion p7-1380t desktop is limited to 8GB of memory are false, as are any other webpages that repeat that info (such as Crucial.com).  The Foxconn H-Joshua-H61-uATX  motherboard specs say it takes up to 16GB, and 16GB it is.

Thank you very much.
