Memory speed is below specifications after upgrade

I upgraded RAM on HP's prebuilt with a motherboard of ROM Family SSID 86E9, Now it's set at 2400mhz instead of the original 2666mhz. I don't even want to overclock the RAM, I just want it set at 2666mhz as the motherboard supports and is shipped with; currently installed RAM supports 3200mhz+.
My pc is an HP 290 G3 and I mentioned the motherboard's ROM family because these are mass-produced and all receive the same BIOS updates, so I think this info may make things easier. 
BIOS is AMI F.36

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

You mentioned that you 'upgraded' your RAM.  I'm afraid that is the reason why you see lower RAM speeds: certain RAM, specifically Corsair Vengeance and G.SKILL gaming RAM tend to get stuck at their "SPD" or default speed on systems without XMP access, such as yours.

For example, this happened to the following unfortunate HP 290 G3 MT User:

My suggestion: get 'regular' RAM (Crucial, Samsung, etc.).

You mean I should go with "JEDEC" RAM, RAM that doesn't depend on XMP profiles right?

You should go with non-Corsair/G.SKILL RAM. Yes, RAM that doesn't depend on XMP access.

Okay, currently installed has SPD at 2400 indeed. I'll get myself another module, and I'll see.
But HP could have done it though because it's not expected for a certain but controlled bios update enabling this to cause bricks since it's already in published specs but jedec not xmp.
