I'm trying to upgrade my RAM, I've bought a matched pair of Corsair RAM sticks (DDR4-2400, 4GB each) to replace the standard single Samsung. My problem is, when I try to install a stick in the vacant slot, it seems to disable the monitor. I've tried all three sticks in each slot, and the result is always the same. Slot 1 works fine, slot 2 kills monitor signal. Any suggestions?

@LeeRatbag That's the information I needed, and here's what I see as compatible RAM upgrade for your device:
-
Single channel (2 DIMMs per channel) memory architecture
-
Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
-
Supports PC4-19200 (DRR4-2400)
-
Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
-
Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
NOTE:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
-
Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
NOTE:
Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system.
And yes, one 8GB RAM should work just fine, although, if you wish to repair the device, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:
1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Click on "Show Options".
Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

@LeeRatbag Note: Please ensure the complete product name/number for a quicker response from the community, as we need to know what we are dealing with to provide an accurate solution: Click here for steps on finding the information we need! (I'm afraid this isn't sufficient: HP Pavilion 590-A0xxx)
Remember: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.
Meanwhile, If none of the RAM sticks work on the second slot but works fine on the first slot, we could conclude that the second slot is faulty or malfunctioning, that said, when you say it kills the monitor, do you mean the computer is still booting up, just the monitor isn't turn on, or is the computer not booting into windows anymore?
Please clarify.

Hi - cheers for the response and sorry for the inadequate info, the product code is 4DG39EA#ABU, is that what you need?
It's difficult to tell for sure without being able to see, but it *seems* that the machine is booting up normally. I have no way of telling if it's going into Windows though. There's certainly power getting to the rest of the machine anyway, there are no warning beeps or anything, it's just that no signal is reaching the monitor. I've cleaned the thing out with an airduster, so I don't think there's anything obstructing the contacts in slot 2.
If the slot is faulty I'll just get an 8GB stick for the working slot, I just wondered if there was something I'd overlooked. I wasn't sure if the slot may have been disabled and needed enabling, or something.

@Riddle_Decipher Thanks for that, much appreciated. If it's a faulty slot I'll leave it alone - it's the wife's machine and she basically uses it for Facebook and World Of Warcraft, so it's not like it particularly needs to be running at top spec, and under the circumstances she's not going to be keen on sending it away for repair. I'll just get a bigger single mem stick and leave it at that. Cheers for your help. 🙂

@LeeRatbag Fair enough, as long as everyone' happy! 😉
Have a good day, both you and your wife, take care..
