HP-P6230F
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'm trying to upgrade my desktop P6230F from 8GB to 16GB. I ordered an 8GB kit that supposedly meets the requirements in the HP Product Description. (I only ordered 1 8GB kit for now, to see if it would work; I'll order a second one if I can get this working.) After removing the 4 2GB modules and inserting the 2 4GB modules, I turned on the computer, but it wouldn't even start to boot, so I couldn't even check the BIOS to see if the new modules were recognized. All I saw on the screen was the "No Signal" message you get when you have nothing connected to a monitor. So I shut off the computer, took out the new modules and put the old ones back in and everything is back to normal now.

Why wouldn't it even start to boot? The obvious answer is that the new modules are defective, but I think that's a remote possibility. I'll try using just one of them and see if either of them works alone, Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes, try each new memory module in each memory socket.

The new modules could be defective or they could be incompatible.

Crucial Memory (Link) is the best place to get compatible memory modules for HP consumer PCs.

Hi DKettle,

You're very welcome.

You also have a post at this (Link) requesting memory upgrade advice; I suggested Crucial.

You now seem to have a memory upgrade problem because you may have purchased Kingston memory.

Enjoy your new memory.

Regards
