HP 255 Dual Wireless Mouse

Hi All,

My mouse keeps losing connection to my PC. Batteries are not the issue, as I've replaced them multiple times with new ones. Using the mouse in Bluetooth or Dongle mode, it works for around 5 minutes before just losing connection. I have to turn off the mouse and wait around 30 seconds before powering it back up again.

Any ideas or has my mouse become defective?

Hi @AndyP9090

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Based on the symptoms, the mouse itself is less likely to be a battery issue, especially because it disconnects in both Bluetooth and dongle modes after roughly 5 minutes. That points more toward a mouse firmware/power-management issue, wireless interference, or a problem with the PC's Bluetooth/USB subsystem.

Uninstall the Bluetooth driver

Open:

  • Device Manager → Bluetooth → Bluetooth adapter → Uninstall device → Restart the PC
  • Windows should reinstall the Bluetooth driver after restarting. Microsoft also recommends obtaining the latest Bluetooth driver from the PC manufacturer's support page if the problem continues.

Remove and re-pair the mouse

For Bluetooth mode:

  • Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Devices → Mouse → Remove device
  • Then put the mouse back into pairing mode and select Add device → Bluetooth.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
