Hi,
I recently bought the desktop OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-001ne, and I was wondering if it would be possible to move everything to a new case. The case I have in mind is the NZXT s340 elite. I've heard that I may encounter problems with connectors, power supply etc.
Thanks in advance

Hi Mark
Yes, you may have some problems.
1. Omen lighting connections,
2. Front Panel connections,
3. Mismatched motherboard standoffs and motherboard mount points,
4. Biggest problem would be a possible voided warranty. Any warranty service requiring you to ship the PC to an HP Service Center will cause a very big headache. You will have to reassemble the system in the HP chassis.
5. Some folks have had BIOS system fan and processor fan detection problems with larger case fans and semi-passive cooling options on aftermarket rads and AIO liquid cooling systems manufactured by Corsair, Kraken, and others.

As with any PC, moving internals from one case to another requires careful inspection of the mounting studs and the placement of the outputs. Moving a motherboard sometimes is the easy part and the other extras are more problematic. In the case for the 880-001ne are special places for the card reader and the DVD/CD drive, which the new case will not have.
I see a liquid cooler, which will require a place for the fan assembly to mount.
As far as the power supply, not much mention of that in the HP documents but it is a bottom mount, similar to the other case.
BTW: the HP case is attractive, not just a plain box, why the desire to move to the other case?

Hi TheOldMan
I would guess the move has something to do with thermals.
You might as well buy a new motherboard with the same chipset and a new operating system product key.
Then move the HP provided; processor, graphics card, and RAM, to the new motherboard. Move the power supply to the new chassis.

Thanks for the reply.
I am having problem with heat when I start to play games. The temps on both CPU and GPU goes around 90 C. (I found out the reason was because of using a 4K monitor). I wanted to put in extra fans/water cooling but the case is just too small thats why I wanted to move to another case.
Guess I have to get another motherboard. The Ram and Power Supply is also HP, will I be able to transfer those as well?

The RAM should not be a problem assuming the correct motherboard is chosen. The power supply appears to be a normal one. Only a few models use special power supplies, but check that out before buying.
Keep in mind the Windows will not like a new motherboard and a new license key might need to be purchased.

Hi Mark
You are welcome.
You may be able transfer the RAM and the power supply. There is a very small chance the RAM may not work. The HP power supply cabling lengths may be too short. This case is designed to route most of the cabling behind the motherboard tray.
You will have to buy a new Windows product key.
Check Tom's Hardware for a review of the NZXT S340. It is a mid tower chassis.
This means you can buy a full ATX motherboard with the same chipset (Z270) as the HP motherboard.
You will not be able to move (as TheOldMan had stated) the HP: USB card reader or the optical drive to the S340.
