@Kilroy-5150@manank,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

As to the question, quote: "But is there no other alternative? " (emphasis added) -The answer is a resounding: YES, there is!

It means going off the HP reservation for the average computer nerd, but the methodology and science behind it are sound, reliable and safe.

The answer to your lack of power can be solved for good by using a simple "ATX 24-Pin to SATA 4-Pin Power Sync Adapter Card", and it looks like this:

You can purchase these cards inexpensively online everywhere (eBay, Amazon, AliExpress, etc.).

In short, you connect the 24-pin power connector from a standard industry ATX power supply to this adapter card plus connect this adapter card to one of your internal SATA power cables, and behold: your secondary PSU is synced ("daisy-chained") to your internal HP OEM power supply.  The secondary power supply is usually parked outside your computer case, unless your PC case is large enough AND your HP motherboard is NOT ATX power supply compatible (equipped with a 24-pin ATX power slot -you don't need this ATX adapter card), such as the Thimphu-K, Higos, Lubin, etc. motherboards.  You can now use your ATX power supply's PCIe 6+2 / 8-pin power cable(s) to power your favorite graphics card.  Whenever you turn your PC off, the secondary PSU will immediately power off too, and when you power up your PC, your secondary ATX PSU will power up automatically in sync with everything else.  Easy-peasy.

I have modified 5 separate legacy HP desktops so far with this power method alternative, and it works great.  Here is my HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF upgrade link (starting at p. 4) for a visual, so to speak: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Upgrading-HP-Elite....

DISCLAIMER: HP does not endorse, approve or recommend this power supply alternative.  If you were to apply this power method to a PC under warranty, you will forfeit your warranty.  Since this mod requires above average computer/mechanical skills to put it together to avoid damaging electronic components, apply at your own risk.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

It is an interesting prospect. However, i don't have the luxury of parts being used outside of my computer. I have animals, cats, that would end up getting zapped, causing it to fall over, or some other accident. I was hoping for something that might solve the issue that could be placed inside the machine, like a 3rd party power supply that could be used or perhaps a wired adapter that would allow me to install another power supply and just wire it through an adapter that would allow an interface swap to the motherboard.

Thanks for the answer though, i appreciate the information.
