Mouse stopped responding with HP desktop.  Changed batteries and still not working.  Could it be possible that my mouse is no longer connected to my computer.

@CarolB22, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand your HP desktop mouse has stopped working even after replacing the batteries. Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot and get it working again.

Check the Mouse Connection Type

  • Wireless USB Receiver: If your mouse uses a USB dongle, make sure it's securely plugged into a working USB port.
  • Bluetooth Mouse: If it's Bluetooth, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your PC and the mouse is paired.

Try a Different USB Port

  • Unplug the receiver and try it in another USB port.
  • Avoid using USB hubs, plug directly into the PC.

Power Cycle the Mouse

  • Remove the batteries again.
  • Press and hold the mouse buttons for 10 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reinsert fresh batteries and turn the mouse back on.

Re-Pair the Mouse (Bluetooth Only)

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
  • If the mouse is listed, remove it and then click Add Bluetooth or other device to re-pair it.

Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click your mouse and choose Uninstall device, then restart your PC. Windows will reinstall the driver.

Test on Another Computer

  • If possible, try the mouse on another PC to rule out hardware failure.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
