Good morning. I have a question about NVME SSD performance. I recently bought a Samsung 980 500gb SSD, not PRO version. My first time using this kind of SSD. Thought I'd try one since the Pavilion 590-p109 has a m.2 slot. I've read numerous posts on questionable Samsung m.2 NVME SSD performance, and the capability of the Mobo (Sunflower) of the PC. Honestly, I wouldn't have a clue if the 980 was under performing or not, and I'm certainly not well knowledgeable about motherboard capabilities. I just wanted to make my PC as responsive as possible. Could anyone share some wisdom as to what, if any, kind of performance improvement I can expect installing the Samsung 980 NVME, into the Pavilion 590-p109. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi:
According to these discussions, the M.2 slot runs NVMe SSD's at the PCIe 3 x 2 lane speed, not PCIe 3 x 4 lane.
Sunflower MB Any M2 HD, of no use to improve performance. ... - HP Support Community - 8009372
Sunflower motherboard m.2 ssd upgrade - HP Support Community - 6731142
So what that means is the Samsung 980 will run at about half of its maximum capability, which would still be around 3 times faster than a SATA SSD.

Thanks much, Paul. You are a "vault" of good information. I'm good with that info. I like trying new things, so, I'll use it with "real world" expectations. My PC usage is "general" in nature, so, I don't require high end solutions. Thanks.

You're very welcome.
I am sure you will enjoy the performance of your NVMe SSD regardless of the motherboard's limitations on the NVMe slot.
In my opinion, the Samsung 980 SSD is the best bargain NVMe SSD out there right now--price/performance wise, so that was a good choice you made.
