I have a HP Pavilion 590-a0xxx desktop with a AMD A9-9425 RADEON R5 processor. Can you advise a suitable replacement motherboard/CPU to upgrade this machine to make it compatible with Windows 11

Hi:
The processor is an integral part of the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.

It doesn't appear that any of the 590-a0xxx AMD models have motherboard processors that support W11.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2.
You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.

Thanks. I know the CPU is welded to the motherboard so they both need replacing so I was hoping to find a suitable motht/cpu combination that would improve the processor as currently the cpu does not meet Windows 11 specs.

You're very welcome.
I recommend you try the easy method I used to upgrade your PC to W11.
It won't cost you anything and if for some reason things don't work as well on W11 as they did on W10, you can easily go back to W10 within 10 days as long as you don't delete any of the upgrade files or Windows.old folder.
I am running W11 22H2 on a couple of HP notebooks with AMD A4-9120 processors and they work fine.
A project like sourcing a motherboard and processor that supports W11 will be very expensive, and I wouldn't be able to help you with that since it appears that all of the AMD motherboards that would be a direct fit in your PC don't support W11.
In addition, you would have to find a motherboard that works with your PC's external 65W power supply (I know of no such motherboards), or you would have to install an internal power supply of sufficient wattage if one is supported in your PCs case.
The Lincs motherboard in that list would support W11 but you would need to also buy an Intel 8th gen core processor as well.
It is also a different form factor and is larger than the motherboard currently installed in your PC.
If all these upgrades were possible you would probably be spending more money to upgrade your PC than buying a new one that fully supports W11.

if i can add a little comment..
You should know, @PIK13 how much are you willing to spend, if you absolutely want a Windows 11 compatible computer
If the system requirements for windows 11 are special, it's not without reason
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications#table1
You can use the workaround option, it usually works pretty well, no worries there..
But, the best option would be to change the box
yours is a small form factor, motherboard Form factor: mini ITX: 26.8 x 17.9 cm (10.5 x 7.0 in)
no graphics card obviously not possible to add one
basically little advantage, to install windows 11 here
you could buy a box, in a larger format, there is something for all budgets!
you will be able to improve the configuration little by little, more easily than with this HP box..
Recover what you can, want hard drive, dvd player, memory if compatible with the other motherboard etc!
of course, it may be a little more expensive than replacing the motherboard, but cheaper than a complete pc, and more scalable than the hp pc!
Just an idea, think about it

Thank you very much for the explanation but the solution looks way too difficult for my level of ability so I will try Paul's simpler solution first. But having researched your proposal I now understand why the upgrade is not possible and I will be more circumspect with my next PC purchase.
