I apologize in case I have "over-posted" but the issues become clearer as more work goes on. Briefly-

 

I want to upgrade my computer memory and have 4 32gb modules. I also have 2 8gb modules that came with the computer.

 

ANY 2 modules work fine. If 3 or 4 modules are added in any combination, the networking card disconnects after 1 to 4 minutes.

 

The BIOS is supposedly up to date. All Windows  updates are in. I have tried many combinations of modules.

 

WiFi is not affected, on the Ethernet networking.

 

Anybody have ideas as to what is  going on? I have been on chat lines for ages with the memory vendor and my resident computer gurus are baffled.

You mentioned the "network card"  

Is this in addition to the ethernet on the motherboard?  Do you have a PCIe ethernet adapter?

 

According to Crucial, each 8gb of ram using about 3 watts with overclocking adding more.  That comes to 48 watts required for 128gb.  It is possible the motherboard cannot supply that much regulated power to the ram in addition to all other board level components and the network circuit is starved for power.

 

Try the following:  Bring up the device manager, select the ethernet adapter and disable any energy efficient settings.

I am guessing that the the ethernet adapter cannot start back up from its low power level.  Possibly the "surge" of power when turning back on causes a glitch due to insufficient regulated power.

Thanks for the reply.  One of the other community members found a solution.  The driver for the Realtek need to be updated.

 

But, the issue turns out to be that the installed driver was suitable for Windows 10. The computer was updated to Windows 11, but the various systems and checkers did not recognize that there was a better Windows 11 driver. So, the driver checking that I did during the early stages of this escapade did not discover that there was a driver issue.

 

Once the Windows 11 driver was installed the whole shebang worked perfectly. Since yesterday morning I have put on many hours and the connections have remained perfect with no trouble at all.

 

I am, however, going to use your suggestions and double check my various settings.
