I have this HP Omen computer 

OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0000i (393C5AV)

Which the standard SSD started to degrade and eventually crash the computer several times. I recently bought a new SSD, which is the "Kingston FURY Renegade M.2 NVMe 2TB Gen 4 Heatsink" and it is not recognised on windows nor in the BIOS on the computer. I tested both the SSD slots and none of them detected the drive, and when I tested the new SSD drive on another computer it worked. What could be the problem i am facing?

In order for Windows to see a drive on a PC with an Intel 11th>13th gen core processor, you have to load the Intel RST driver during the installation process.


If you did not do that, I have zipped up and attached below, the Intel RST drivers needed for Windows to find the drive.

 

Unzip and copy all of the files in the folder in the attachment to a USB flash drive.

 

Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.

 

Boot from the Windows installation flash drive.

 

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

 

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

 

If Windows still can't find the drive, uncheck the box to include the compatible driver and try any of the ones listed.

Hi Paul!

I downloaded the drivers that you provided, unzipped them and put them in the USB stick. I now have two usb sticks, one with windows installation, and the other with the drivers.

 

When I go through with the installation until I come to the pick drive and see this

 Then I attempt to load the driver by going here:

 I then click on Intel RST VMD Controller 467F and hit install. Here is the results, which shows no disk found:

 I don't know what more I could do fix the problem that I am having.

Hi:

 

Yes, all Windows sees are the two USB flash drives and not the NVMe SSD.

 

Unfortunately I don't know why the BIOS or Windows does not recognize the drive.

 

There's no reason I can think of as to why the drive doesn't work if you installed it in the M.2 slot correctly and there is only one way it will go.

 

The heat sink isn't preventing the contacts from going all the way into the slot?

 

My HP Elitedesk 800 G3 DM PC's NVMe SSD doesn't show up in the BIOS either but it works fine and I was able to install Windows with no problem.

 

So, that must be a BIOS-specific thing.

Hi again!

How do I know for sure that the SSD I bought is compatible with my motherboard? It says that the motherboard is called BlizzardOC but I can not see which Nvme SSds are compatible. When the PC is running in the bios or in the windows installation, the new SSD is hot so I think it connects properly.

Any brand or model NVMe SSD should work.

 

Yes, if it is warm then it must be connected.

 

There's no list of compatible drives that I am aware of.

 

You could try buying the same brand drive (not model) as the one that failed in you.

 

For example, if it is a Samsung drive buy a retail Samsung SSD but as I wrote yesterday, I have no idea why it isn't working.
