HP Pavilion G5410sc
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought I7 2600 for my HP Pavilion G5410sc (and in future a new gpu too), and when i booted it up with the i7 2600 it said ''Error. Unsupported CPU Installed.'' and i was like okay,  there should be bios updates, but i didnt find any. Is it possible to get BIOS updates from here? Help would be definitely appreciated.

Here is the latest BIOS for that model, and it is old - 2012

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-pavilion-g5400-desktop-pc-series/50807...

It has a stipulation that it is for Windows 7, so it might not run under Windows 10.  If that is even newer than what is installed/existing on the motherboard.

Here are the support CPU's BTW:

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:

  • Socket type: LGA 1155
  • TDP: Max 65W
    • Core i3-2xxx/T dual core
    • Core i3-2xxx dual core
    • Core i5-2xxx quad core
    • Core i7-2xxx quad core

The support page also lists the power supply as 300w which may be a deterant for graphics card upgrades.  Do some research before buying.

Hi,

The last BIOS update for your PC was version 7.16 which is posted under Windows 7.  Usually HP stops posting updates for a PC after one year from the release date.

Try clearing the CMOS by removing the round battery for 30 seconds that is located on the system board.   The procedure for using the CMOS jumpers are missing but I'll look later.  In the meantime removing the battery will do the same.

BTW--If you bought a model of the i7-2xxx that is not listed such as a "k" model then these types of models are not supported.

So, basically there is nothing to do if i dont want to buy a new mobo? And why it couldn't support locked processors? That's strange in my opinion cause i've only sometimes seen motherboards that has not supported unlocked cpu's.

OEM motherboards normally are setup at the time of manufacture to support certain hardware.  They do not in general modify the BIOS to accept new hardware down the road. Unlike retail motherboards that have frequent updates to accept new CPU's, ETC that may become available later in life.  That is just the way things work.  OEM's make certain models to perform at the time of manufacture and updates are to correct bugs or failed programming for that particular model.  Future hardware is incorporated in newer models, in general and not in a line already in production.
