HP Pavilion 590-p0045xt
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP Pavilion 590-P0045xt desktop -- Intel i7-8700 CPU @3.2GHz,  Intel UHD graphics 630 (1920 x 1080 resolution),  8M DDR4-2666MHz, 1 TB SATA 7200rpm, w/a 310W PSU.    Running Windows 11 OS home and AVG and Malwarebytes.  In general, I'm very pleased with the desktop.

I do architectural design, with 3D rendering.  Recently, I have upgraded to the latest version of architectural software, and my current set-up appears inadequate when I do the rendering or have multiple floor plans open.

I have just ordered  additional DDR-4 RAM to increase the total from 8M to 32M and I'm considering adding a separate GPU card.  However,  I read an article, which states there may be issues with the BIOS supporting a separate GPU card.

Would like feedback on any issues with the BIOS supporting a separate GPU card, and any recommendations for a GPU card.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best regards,

JRM

@jrm200,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Btw, you can upgrade the 310-watt power supply for your HP Pavilion 590-p0045xt (X6C28AA) as fitted with a Lincs motherboard (SSID: 843B), with a 400-watt power supply with p/n: L04618-800 with one 6+2-pin PCIe power cable, and a 500-watt power supply, with p/n: L05757-800, which has one 6-pin and one 6+2-pin PCIe power cables. You can purchase these PSUs online, such as through eBay.

So, you got power supply options in case you need a more powerful graphics card.

If you want to keep your power supply, there are a couple of cards which should perform adequately for rendering: a GTX 1650, or an RTX A2000.  You don't have to worry about any BIOS incompatibility or issues: that is not at play.  Just make sure that your HP drivers and Windows 11 are up to date.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
