@buddles1950, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Replacing the power supply unit (PSU) in an HP TouchSmart IQ771.uk Desktop PC can be a bit challenging due to the compact design of the all-in-one system. However, here is a general guide on how to replace the PSU:

Step 1: Gather Necessary Tools and Materials

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement PSU compatible with your TouchSmart model

Step 2: Safety Precautions

  • Ensure the computer is powered off and is disconnected from any power source.
  • Ground yourself to prevent static discharge, which can damage the internal components.

Step 3: Open the Case

  1. Remove the Stand: Carefully lay the computer screen side down on a soft surface. Remove the screws connecting the stand to the back cover.
  2. Access the Internal Components:
    • Locate and remove any screws securing the back panel or cover.
    • Gently pry open the back cover, starting from an edge or corner, and lift it away from the frame. Be cautious of any cables or connectors still attached.

Step 4: Remove the Existing PSU

  1. Identify the PSU: The PSU is usually a rectangular box with cables running from it.
  2. Disconnect Cables: Carefully disconnect all the cables connecting the PSU to the motherboard, drives, and other components.
  3. Unscrew the PSU: Locate and remove any screws securing the PSU to the case. These are typically at the rear of the unit.

Step 5: Install the New PSU

  1. Position the new PSU: Slide the new PSU into place in the slot vacated by the old one.
  2. Secure the PSU: Use the screws you removed earlier to secure the new PSU to the chassis.
  3. Reconnect the Cables: Connect the power cables from the new PSU to the motherboard and other components. Ensure each connection is secure and matches the configuration of the old PSU.

Step 6: Reassemble the Computer

  1. Reattach the Back Cover: Carefully place the back cover onto the frame and secure it with screws.
  2. Reattach the Stand: Screw the stand back onto the computer's rear panel.

Step 7: Testing

  • Reconnect the power cable and test if the system powers up with the new PSU.
