HP OmniDesk M02-0018nf

Hello, I wanted to upgrade HP OmniDesk M02-0018nf with nvidia RTX pro 2000 (75W from PCIe express). But the computer comes with just 180W PSU which is funny, because the i7 14th gen eats up 200W in boost. Anyways I need to get it work so I thought if more powerful PSU could solve the problem. Because if the montherboard doesn't support 75W PCIe power delivery then I'm out because that must be some bad joke

Since my good friends @DGroves and @Paul_Tikkanen contributed to resolving your issue referencing my previous inputs, here is my take if you don't mind.

 

Look, the PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard is fully compliant with standard specifications and can physically deliver up to 75-watt of power. The motherboard itself is not the bottleneck here; rather, the configuration limit comes down to the intended design of the machine.
 
HP configurations with a 180-watt PSU are engineered tightly (arguably too tightly from my perspective) for standard home and office workloads, where the i7 processor spends most of its time running at its base 65-watt power envelope. In that out-of-the-box scenario, total system power draw rarely exceeds 110-watt, meaning a 180-watt supply is adequate and energy-efficient.
 
However, trying to drop an enterprise-grade workstation card such as the RTX Pro 2000 into a base-model office tower creates a massive power deficit. What you are trying to do is using a commuter car to tow a heavy-duty trailer.
 
Anyway, to make this upgrade work, the most realistic option is to upgrade to a Higher-Wattage HP PSU, and @Paul_Tikkanen already posted the link with various power supply upgrades available to you.

you are most likely confusing the very short current "BOOST" draw tha a cpu makes with a steady state draw

 

the i7 14th gen series cpu's range from 45 watt up to 125 watt and HP does not certify any 125 watt cpu's on systems with 180 watt pwr supplies

 

the hp OmniDesk M02-xxxxx line covers many diffrent systems with diffrent hardware specs your "0018nf" model is a lowend system 

 

it might be possible to install a 250 watt supply as that was a option on some models in this series the 250 watt unit is the same form factor as the 180 watt you now have HP p/n: 901760-004 might be compatable you need to check the P2 connector wires for how many wires used on connector new supply must match existing power supply

 

the PCI-e specs for power state that a pci-e slot can power "UP TO" a 75 watt card IF THE SYSTEM SUPPORTS IT

 

many systems (such as yours) only support a 35 or possibly 55 watt max power draw on their pci-e slots

So I'm not able to install nvida RTX pro 2000? It has only 75W and it isn't supported? Is this some bad joke from HP? That really isn't funny, I don't understand why HP does this

Thank you, but that's not an option for me, getting the PSU here is such a huge headache. I just bought components and told myself that building standard ATX PC is way better than buying proprietary prebuild. If I knew it sooner I wouldn't buy it at all.
