@mpjbay, welcome to the forum.
Here are the only processor upgrades that are supported by the motherboard and HP:
TDP: 130W
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Intel Core i7 9xx series (Bloomfield, includes Extreme Edition)
The TDP is very important when choosing a processor upgrade.
These are the options that you had to choose from when you bought the computer:
Must select one of the following options:
Core-i7-930 (B) (130W)
Core-i7-950 (B) (130W)
Core-i7-960 (B) (130W)
Core-i7-975EE (B) (130W)
Core-i7-980X-EE (G) (130W)

You are very welcome, @mpjbay.
I believe that the i7-980X-EE (Extreme Edition) would be the fastest. It is the only 6 core. However, since all of the processors were manufactured in 2010 it may be diffiult to find them. You may have to contact Intel to see which of their newer processors would work with your motherboard.
