18 month old laptop noticed not charging whilst on even though battery plugged in. Now unable to power up. Not an issue with the battery source itself. Took to a local shop and they said it is the motherboard that needs replacing. Has anyone else had a similar problem and what is the situation with HP as now out of warranty but would seen not fit for purpose if this is the problem.

Hi @Bluey63,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for contacting HP Support, and I'm very sorry to hear about the charging and power issue you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion 14-inch Laptop PC (14-ec0000 series). I understand how concerning it is, especially when the device is just outside its warranty period.
Before assuming a hardware failure, we recommend trying a BIOS restore, which may help resolve the issue if it's caused by a firmware or embedded controller malfunction.
BIOS Restore:
1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
