while most systems are fairly tolerant/forgiving in regards to ram specs this does not mean all systems are, some are fairly strict and require you use ram modules that have been tested and approved by the system maker or by the memory maker

the crucial web site does not list EITHER of your current dimm part numbers as being compatible with the Elitedesk 800 G2

again,............just because the ram you have is labeled HP and matches some of the common memory specs does not make it fully compatible with your G2, there are many memory settings that are important which are not disclosed/listed

you want working compatible ram? then buy the CORRECT ram,....... you already know your current ram is not compatible

when i bought my correct ram, it had the crucial part number, and this is what i used when buying used ram, not some HP labeled ram that came from a unknown HP system

BTW, where is the approved memory module list for this? Seems like it's not easy to find.

McGlynn012 - that's my own post. I switched to a different thread title when someone convinced me that the whole issue was  incompatible RAM. Turns out it's not quite that simple. I finally solved it just now; see the other thread linked below if you are interested. Thanks,
