RAM Installation Problems

 I originally had 4 gigabytes of RAM.Each piece has a capacity of 2 gigabytes.I need to install more RAM But,I do not understand the description on the web support.On the web, let me install a maximum of 16 GB (4 x 4 GB) (64-bit OS) and 4 GB * (4 x 1 GB) (32-bit OS). If I need 64 gigabytes of RAM, can I use 16 gigabytes x 4 Or if I need 32 gigabytes of RAM, can I use 8 gigabytes x 4 ? please,help

As uming they use same motherboard which says

   Memory upgrade information

• Dual channel memory architecture
• Four 240-pin DDR2 DIMM sockets
• Supported DIMM types:
  • PC2-5300 (667 MHz)
  • PC2-6400 (800 MHz)
• Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
• Supports 2GB DDR2 DIMMs   (a)
  
• Supports up to 8 GB on 64 bit PCs  (b)
  
• Supports up to 4 GB* on 32 bit PCs  (c)
  

That means

(a) It has 4 banks/slots, each bank/slot supports 2GB max

(b) 8Gb max because 4 banks each 2GB   (4 x 2 = 😎

(c) Due to normal 32 bit Winows OS can't access to addresses above 4GB therefore you can only use 2 x 2GB or 4 x 1 GB. But 64bit Windows OS can access a lot more.

No,  machine won't support anything over 8GB - I don't know where 16GB come from.

Hi

The product number P6000 applies to many different HP PCs.

You may not be able to install individual memory module density which exceed the HP recommended maximum.

So, if HP states you can install a maximum 16 GB of memory in four memory slots in a 4 x 4 configuration on a 64 bit OS, you will not be able to exceed this limit.

You are limited to 16 GB of installed memory. Four 4GB modules.

The chipset may not see the additional memory or the PC may not boot.

Memory modules should be installed in matching pairs on dual channel motherboards using the same manufacturer and OEM recommended specs to obtain optimal results.
