Hi,
I have a HP ProDesk 400 G4 Form Factor PC. I use this PC for learning and working on the Rails project. I also have WSL2 installed. The problem is even on WSL2 ubuntu 22, test failures are happening when running RSpec for rails project when it runs perfectly fine in Linux or MacOS. So, I'm thinking of using a dual boot Linux instead of WSL2 Ubuntu or a virtual machine where I can run Linux to work on a Rails project. For this, I need the following upgrades:
1. RAM to 16 or 32 GB (currently 8 GB)
2. SSD 1TB (currently I have 250 GB SSD installed after removing the 500GB HD)
I need advise on how to go for these upgrades.
For RAM, is it good to remove the 8 GB and install a new 16 GB one or keep the existing 8 GB and add another 8 GB. What would be the brand or how to choose which one to buy?
For SSD, I m thinking of removing the 250 GB SSD and buy a 1 TB SSD instead and dual boot it with windows 10 and Linux.
Thanks,

hi
this model has a lot of indications, about different possible configurations
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05362196
for the SSD disk, as already indicated to another user, you can look at the model you have, we will often find the same one with greater capacity
you can test crucial scan also ( ssd and memory )
DDR4-2400 | Maximum: 64 GB Number of slots: (2) DIMM (both slots are customer accessible/upgradeable) Up to 2400 MT/s |
Configurations | 2048 MB total system memory (2048 MB x 1) 4096 MB total system memory (4096 MB x 1) 8192 MB total system memory (8192 MB x 1) 16384 MB total system memory (16384 MB x 1) |
for the memory if you only install 16gb you can try just one module, if similar enough it can work..
and if ever incompatibility between the two, then yes, you will have to buy the same one (after checking if the new one works alone)
in some cases this is not a problem, but it is quite random:

check your computer's manuals as well and if this type / model :

@Promethee, thanks for the reply and for the link to the manual.
I will try 8192 MB total system memory (8192 MB x 1) + 16384 MB total system memory (16384 MB x 1). If not 16 GB RAM seems fine.
For the memory as well as SSD, how do I test which ones are compatible to my system. You mention "Test Crucial Scan". How do I do that? I would like to try a 1 TB SSD and 16 GB RAM. Will this amazon Crucial SSD and RAM work on my system.?
Best Regards,

I will just answer you quickly for crucial
it's quite simple, unless the computer is not recognized
you open the link which is given crucial, and there you just click on the crucial link, and find your upgrade
scroll down to
Find your compatible upgrade in minutes
check the box (read or not the terms&conditions), and start your free scan, follow the instructions
give me the result, then we'll see if I can help you more than that, if it doesn't work
