Ram upgrade for Product: Pavilion power 580-015na Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi folks, I have an aging Pavilion power 580-015na that I want to speed up.

I have some spare ram,

Patriot Signature Line Series DDR4 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz UDIMM 

Form Factor 288-Pin RAM memory technology DDR4

Memory speed 3200 MHz

Capacity: 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4

Frequency: 3200 MHz (PC4-25600).
Timings: 22-22-22-52.
Shape: Non-ECC Unbuffered DIMM; Pin Out: 288 Pin

but when I installed this, the Bios is still showing just 8 GB of ram.

How can I get the (BIOS?) to recognise the 16 GB.

your modules may be able to run at the speed accepted by the motherboard
see if your modules can work separately, with each slot
either you have a module that cannot work, or a problem with one of the memory slots
either, they can't work both together
depending on it you may need to replace both modules
what happens with the original module with one or the other also?

Thanks for replying. Either ram module will work in slot XMM1 and PC will work with both slots used.

If however only slot XMM3 is used, the PC will not boot.

I have just discovered this now after another poster suggested I try it that way.

It now looks as if the XMM3 slot is faulty or it needs to be "activated" in some way. The ram modules are fine.

Could  the slot XMM3 need to be "activated" in some way ? I don't have the original 8gb module.

When you have several memory slots, it seems that in some cases, you have to use a single slot, if you have just 1 module
Only, this is not the case for all models, unfortunately the test is therefore not conclusive.
There is no option, just open the bios, you certainly won't find it
so if your two modules work in the first slot, either you can't use both modules, because of "incompatibility..
either the slot and can be HS
see, trying to clean it by blowing dry air, and retesting, making sure that the module is properly engaged!
Otherwise, it will be necessary to test two modules with the right characteristics
Rather than buying modules for nothing, have it tested by a professional

Hi Prométhée, I found an old post here,

with exactly the same problem and the same model. It seems the second ram slot has a mind of it's own and if it does not like the ram used, it refuses to work. The other poster got 2X8 of "Crucial" ram, (their website suggested that would work), and it did. The second slot woke up and his full 16 ram, (8X2), was recognised.

As one final test, I borrowed a 16 ram module from my good PC and put it in slot number 1.

The PC booted showing 16 ram.

My only problem now is I have a spare 8X2 ram and I need either "Crucial" ram or a 1X16 module.
