HP Pavilion 500-056

I replaced my RAM due to failure with an "identical"  PCL 8gb 12800U LX1.

I inserted it into the same slot I removed the previous one from but nothing appears on the screen.

Any ideas?

Hi @Sandy0223,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues related to a RAM failure, particularly in your HP device, I would request you to please follow the steps.

Reset BIOS/UEFI:

  • Perform a BIOS/UEFI reset by removing the battery (if accessible), unplugging the power adapter, and holding the power button for about 15-20 seconds to reset any residual power.

Clear the Error Message:

  • Press the OK or checkmark button on your device to clear any error messages related to the RAM disk. This action might allow you to continue with operations that do not require the use of the RAM disk.

Reinsert the Card:

  • Remove the card and reinsert it firmly into the slot until the Photo light turns on.
  • If the light next to the memory card slots is blinking, do not pull out the card as it indicates the device is accessing it.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks so much for your quick reply.

I have tried all of that and more without success.

Since the machine is 14 years old, I just threw in the towel and rescued the HD to recover.

However, I am likly to buy an HP replacement!
