HP Pavilion p7-1254 Desktop PC

Looking for required data cable to connect a new SSD with the existing HDD in a HP Pavilion p7-1254. Transfered the HDD OS and data to SSD via USB connection externally, and it works OK. There is no existing split data cable to connect both devices internally. There is a split power cable, which is fine, but without a split data cable, only one device can operate. Is there a recommended solution? If there are other data connections ports on the motherboard, I do not know where they are. Looked on the internet for p7-1254 motherboard diagrams, but nothing. Should I send a photo?

Hi:

Below is the link to the parts list for your PC:

HP PartSurfer

The SATA data cable is:

645576-001
Cable - SATA3, 165MM

The motherboard is:

657134-001
Motherboard - Holly, AMD Hudson-D2

Doing a search by the cable part number on eBay and then sorting by the lowest price, I found this one.

HP Pavilion P7-1020 SATA Power Cable P/N 645576-001 | eBay

This listing shows the motherboard picture:

HP PAVILION SERIES MOTHERBOARD AAHD2-HY w/ I/O Shield Tested Working Free Ship 799789513398 | eBay

If you intend to retain the mechanical hard drive and use it for storage, you will plug the SATA data connector from the SSD to the SATA port your existing hard drive is plugged into now (probably the dark blue one as shown in the motherboard  illustration).

Then you plug the old hard drive into the light blue port, which I believe is for the secondary hard drive.

OK - I will aquire your recommendtion for the data cable. This will be for the HDD data connection with the other end connection to the light blue data port on the mother board. The original data cable connection will be to the new SSD. This is what I understood from your detailed explanation. Will look at my HP mother board to see if it matches the one per the link you provided.  Will let you know the outcome by this coming weekend. Busy working on other things besides upgrades to my PC. Thank you

Your understanding of what I wrote is right on the mark.

Ordered the data cable from eBay, which was listed as HP Pavilion P7-1020 SATA Power Cable P/N 645576-001 and assume it's OK with p7- 1254 model as well. Won't receive it until Aug 31. Will keep you posted on results. Thanks!

Got the data cable this past Thursday & did the installation the next day. It works! There are data 4 ports on the mother board, dark blue, light blue, yellow & orange. The light blue was connected to the CD optical drive, so I connected the existing HDD to the yellow port. One port remains for another device. As previously noted, connected dark blue port cable to the new SSD. I had done the migration, moving the OS to the SSD from the HDD. Really, there are no instructions about this migration process, although I did not search the web for it. Aquired the SSD through Amazon & selected the mounting & USB transfer cable with the purchase. Easy install, but again no real instructions on the process such aas identifying what drive is which one. Discovered the SSD was now OS C: and the HDD as G: with a Norton Utilities app. Unfortunatley, MS Outlook 2016 would not load, but the other Office apps worked fine. Today, removed Office 2016 and downloaded Office 365. I may remove 365 too because it requires an annual or montly subscription. For me, Office 365 is not necessary & I may aquire Office 2021 from Keysworld & install it. Downside may be future security issues according to MS.

When I could no longer use Outlook 2007, because Microsoft quit allowing Office 2007 and 2010 to connect to Microsoft Exchange, I resorted to using the built in Mail app for W10.

It's better than nothing, or using the web based e-mail.

It also gives you the option to install the free version of Microsoft Outlook, which I like a little better, but I forgot how that came to be.

I think it gave me an option from within the mail app to install it.
