I have an AMD Ryzen 3 and would like to add another hard drive but came across something that seems odd with the data cable connector on the factory installed data cable. The factory installed data cable connector has 5 contacts while the data cable connector on a hard drive has 7 contacts. In addition, the width of the factory installed data cable connector is significantly less than the internal width of the hard drive connector. Can I conclude that this computer has the incorrect cable and connector installed or is there some specification change involved?

Along with the model number as requested by @Prométhée , it would not hurt if you posted a picture of the connectors in question.
BTW: you will also need a power connection for the additional hard drive.
I'm not an HP employee.

Sorry but I had a brain crash on this. The connector I'm talking about was adjacent to the two 15 pin power connectors and bundled with them under the same clip on the drive tray so without checking the rest of the cables in the computer further I figured this was the connector for an additional drive. This is where I screwed up. This morning after having it pop into my head that I should take another look at this, I located the connectors on the motherboard that were labeled SATA and the connectors labelled SATA0 and SATA2 both had cables with 7 pin connectors at the opposite ends underneath a clip near the power supply. There really is no problem here with the connectors.
While we are here, I will ask if it matters whether the SATA0 or SATA2 connection is used for connection to an additional hard drive.
Sorry about a bit of a wild goose chase.

I don't know if I understand the question correctly
but if you want to connect a second HDD or SSD sata, it is necessary to connect the power cable to the HDD / SSD
And the SATA DATA connector from the hdd / SSD to the motherboard

I have already done it for my computer, and without paying attention to the sata number, no problem
The only thing, and I doubt that this is the case here, recent computer, being that for my motherboard there were sata ports 3 gb and 6 gb
