This PC was upgraded from Win8 to Win10 in the second year of Win10. I have never used the SD Card reader until now. When I insert a good card, the green light on the reader comes on and stays on, but I can't find the card anywhere on the PC. I need to be able to locate it.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I recommend you uninstall the card reader driver from device manager and restart the computer and check if it helps.
Here is how it is done.
- Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
- On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
- When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.
NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
If you continue facing the issue, then make sure all the Windows updates are installed including optional ones.
Here is how it is done.
Open Start Menu and click on Settings > Update & Security settings >Windows Update. Here, press on the Check for updates button. If any updates are available, they will be offered to you.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I tried that a couple of times and once the computer rebooted, the same problem existed. I also checked the BIOS and started up sequence and everything looks good too. The drivers for these cards are also drivers for other stuff and show to be created in 2006. Can't find any others to upgrade too. I went out today and bought a USB SD card adapter and used it instead of messing with the OEM one.
Thank you

Thank you for keeping me posted.
I recommend you run a test on the SD card reader to make sure that it is not a hardware issue.
Follow the steps in the below article to run a test on the SD card.
