Hello,

Today I installed the following Windows updates:

  • 2026-01 Preview Update (KB5074105) (26200.7705)

  • 2026-02 .NET 8.0.24 Security Update for x64 Client (KB5077863)

After the required system restart, I received a warning stating “Reliability is degraded” for my SSD.

I then ran HP Hardware Diagnostics and executed the Storage Test (Quick), which returned the following error:

Hard Drive/SSD SMART Check: Failed
Failure ID: RGDX20-B3DD19-GXGK0J-60BJ03

Additional details from the report:

  • Estimated remaining life: 99%

  • Available spare: 100%

Are there any possible solutions or recommended steps to resolve this issue?

Thank you.

Greetings @lucerys

Remove preview update KB5074105 since the drive error occurred immediately after installing the optional update.

Then check the drive again.

The drive would be failing if you continue to get a SMART error. Back up drive data ASAP.

Microsoft has been pushing some buggy updates lately. It is also possible KB5077863 could be causing a problem.

I just had a problem with both the January, 2026 security update KB5074109 and the optional KB5074105 update .

Removed both updates, deferred updates for a while.

Checked system stability. Then reinstalled both updates.

My PC seems to be stable again.

Regards
