Hi Wntrhwk, please note I am not an HP spokesperson. I volunteer my time and offer my knowledge to support fellow users. The only reason I am here is to assist others to try to resolve their HP upgrade and hardware issues.
What I would do if I were in your situation:
1.) Install a M2 SSD in your 810 G3 (or skip this),
2.) Using another PC, download this BIOS: 01.22 Rev.A for 64-bit W10 (assuming you want to install W10) from here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-revolve-810-g3-tablet/7429241
3.) On the same PC, run sp102459.exe as Administrator, allow this App to make changes: "Yes", "Next", "I Accept", "Save files in folder": "Location to Save Files": change to your Downloads folder, "OK", "Next", "Create Recovery USB Flash Drive" -see pictures, "Finish".
4.) Eject USB flash drive and insert the flash drive with said BIOS upgrade into your 810 G3.
5.) Restart the 810 G3 and allow the BIOS flashing to complete.
Let me know how this works out for you.

Thx for your help, I appreciate you hanging with me on this weird journey. It's up to the vendor now whether I can flash the BIOS (your instructions for creating the BIOS USB stick were perfect). I did get another msg from the vendor saying his Tech still thinks there is another SSD drive onboard, separate from the "standard" SSD drive bay. I think we can agree he is not well informed on that one. C'est Lavie, not much else I can do. Thx again for your patience with me.
Mike

Sorry, I see you marked the answer
but that it is obviously not settled
According to all documents, there is no second location
configuration possible only:
512 GB SATA-3 Solid State Drive
It is not for you to solve the problem, if there is no reader
if you miss the bios update, the seller just has to say it's your fault
it must be close enough to G2

@wntrhwk the answer is marked here, only a moderator can change this
If you want you can request a change .
But you have probably read my signature, this is just an indication, because there are many who do not bother to do this, if a solution has been given
@NonSequitur777 helped you a lot, I don't think you need to change this, although I think it's not a good thing to update the bios in this case.
