@Caveman58,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your HP 15t-dy200 is a touchscreen model with a 15.6" FHD IPS display, replacing the screen might be more expensive than a non-touch model. Here's what I'd recommend:

Finding the Exact Part Number:

Since it's a touchscreen model, the screen part number will be specific. In order to find the exact screen replacement part number, you'll need to carefully remove the screen bezel to check the label at the back of the screen. And here's the thing: I found it very challenging to find an easy-to-follow (DIY) YouTube video how to go about doing that.  This video may be applicable to your laptop: (2745) HP 15 dy Touch Screen Replacement - YouTube.

In addition to the difficulties locating a decent DIY instructional video, it appears that HP doesn't provide a current manual either.

I think this eBay Seller has the correct replacement screen ($120): https://www.ebay.com/itm/125413948893, but unfortunately, I am not sure.

Replacing the screen is quite involved, and needs to be done very carefully, or you'll risk damaging your new screen.

In my opinion, I would take your laptop to a local laptop repair/service store, and getting a cost estimate how much it is going to cost you to repair your laptop.

Sadly, if the laptop's value is lower than the cost of the replacement, you may have to consider selling it for parts and looking for a new model instead.

Btw, an external monitor could serve as a temporary solution while deciding on the screen replacement.

To connect an external monitor to your HP 15t-dy200 CTO laptop, follow these steps:

1. Check Available Ports on Your Laptop:

  • HDMI Port: Look for a HDMI port on the laptop. It’s a common port for external monitors.
  • USB-C Port (if available): If your laptop has a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode, you can use a compatible USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
  • VGA: This is older but might be an option if the laptop has it, though it's less common on newer models.

2. Connect the Monitor:

  • Plug one end of the appropriate cable (HDMI, USB-C, or VGA) into the external monitor.
  • Plug the other end into the laptop.

3. Turn on the Monitor:

  • Ensure the external monitor is powered on.

4. Switch Display Mode (Windows Settings):

  • Press the Windows + P keys to open the display options menu. This will allow you to choose between different modes:
    • PC screen only: Only the laptop screen will be active (useful if the external monitor is not being recognized).
    • Duplicate: The same image will appear on both screens.
    • Extend: The external monitor acts as an extended workspace.
    • Second screen only: Only the external monitor will be active.
  • Select the mode that suits your needs.

5. Adjust Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings to fine-tune the screen resolution, orientation, and positioning of the external monitor.

Let me know if you'd like more details or have specific questions about using an external monitor!

Kind Regards,
