Hi @Urs_aady,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the space bar on your laptop's built-in keyboard is not working and isn’t lighting up, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Restart Your Laptop
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.
2. Check for Physical Obstruction
- Inspect the space bar for any debris or dust that may be obstructing it. Carefully clean around the key using compressed air or a soft brush.
3. Test in Different Applications
- Open a text editor or browser and try pressing the space bar to see if it works in different applications. This can help determine if the issue is app-specific.
4. Use an External Keyboard
- Connect an external USB keyboard to see if the space bar works there. If it does, the issue might be with the laptop's built-in keyboard.
5. Check Keyboard Settings
- Ensure that the keyboard settings haven't changed:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Typing and review any relevant options.
6. Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Keyboards, right-click on your keyboard, and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If that doesn’t work, you can also try uninstalling the driver and restarting your laptop, which will reinstall it.
7. Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Additional troubleshooters and then Keyboard to run the troubleshooter.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
